Driving Days

VTferry

We headed out of Burlington on Sunday afternoon. Brett spent the morning on a bike ride around Burlington with Craig and two of Craig’s friends. After lunch they returned, he showered and we hit the road. It was great weather, we were in great moods and it was an overall great drive. The small towns just south of Burlington along the lake are so very adorable. We took the ferry across Lake Champlain into New York.

New York was wonderful. We enjoyed droving through the Adirondacks on curvy little two lane roads toward Syracuse. We stopped at Verona Beach State Park just Northeast of Syracuse in time for a great sunset over Verona Lake.

We have only had two night-time issues staying in state parks on this trip. The first was in California - at Cardiff State Beach - we were awakened in the wee early morning hours to very loud orgasmic moans coming from the next site that lasted a good 10 minutes before an unfortunately unrewarding conclusion. And the second issue was this night in Verona Beach. A group several sites was comprised of a large number of people who were playing loud 80’s hard rock way late into the morning hours. It wouldn’t have been a problem if they didn’t crank up the volume for their favorite Metallic song at 2:21am and not turn it back down. Brett got up and ‘politely’ told them to turn it off.

The next morning we were up at 7am and off! We made our way into Syracuse and then along the New York ThruWay. We have noticed that the tolls we have spent in New York State - various bridges in New York City, Toll Highways, etc - have amounted to more than double the tolls and fees that we paid everywhere else combined along our journey. But it is rather difficult to make it to New England without a passage through New York, so we are just going with it and accepting it for what it is.

Today we drove. We drove through New York, the edge of Pennsylvania and across Ohio. We drove more miles today than on any other day of our trip. We switched drivers every 100 miles during bathroom and stretching breaks. We drove for roughly 12 hours before arriving at our destination.
