Boston’s North End is home to many great Italian eateries. Mike’s Pastry is the best place in the neighborhood to get a scoop of gelato or a fresh pastry - cannoli, biscotti, cookies, cake, eclair, pie, cheesecake, etc, etc, etc. You get the idea. As you can see in the photograph above, this is no secret. The North End is a small neighborhood and there are few secrets (I’ll take mine to the grave, thank you very much), but Mike’s Pastry is in the middle of all the action. We were there on a Thursday evening and there was already a line out the door.

Kate and I were accompanied by some camp friends: Carey, Rob and Sarah. We had all just devoured some fantastic Italian food for dinner down the street and were looking for something sweet to take home and enjoy later. Sarah and I elbowed our way (literally) up to the counter before shouting our order to one of the busy attendants. We needed one eclair, one cannoli with chocolate chips, a peanut butter cup and a toffee bar - to go. I managed to snap a few photos of our delicious treats before they disappeared into the to go box.

Our package all wrapped up and ready to travel! I am a huge fan of the cannoli and honestly Mike’s Pastry makes the best cannoli I’ve ever had (trust me, I’ve looked high and low). It’s nice knowing that they make the cannolis fresh daily right there in the shop, because eating a soggy cannoli is no one’s idea of a good time.
So if you ever find yourself in Boston’s North End in search of the perfect dessert - make your way to Mike’s Pastry at 300 Hanover Street (Haymarket is the nearest T stop).
