Kate is my Co-Pilot

Kate is my Co-Pilot

As Kate and I have now driven more than 10,000 miles on our road trip adventure, we are accustomed to seeing some pretty interesting bumper stickers. Among them we have seen bumper stickers that read ‘God is my co-pilot’ and also: ‘Dog is my co-pilot’ (no, that’s not a typo, some people drive around with their dogs). After seeing a few of these bumper stickers one day I decided that I was going to get a bumper sticker made for Sofi that says:

Kate is my Co-Pilot

You’re probably wondering, but why is she your co-pilot? There are several reasons.

We’re married. Hence, we go everywhere together. It’s pretty awesome.

The best navigator in the world. Hands down. Remember that drive-in movie theater in Carthage, Missouri? If it wasn’t for Kate we never would have found that place. She has the best sense of direction; I often joke with her that if she had been Christopher Columbus’s navigator then he would have ended up in the East Indies and not in the Americas. I can’t count the number of times she has successfully negotiated horrible road signage and/or incorrect maps to get us to our destination.

She keeps me hydrated, which is important, especially on those long driving days.

Entertainment. Sometimes it’s music and she sings along, which is always enjoyable - she’s a big Fleetwood Mac fan. And sometimes she reads aloud while I drive. This makes the miles go by and is quite enjoyable.

Excellent passenger. There are two types of people in the world: good passengers and bad passengers. Good passengers are comfortable when they are in the passenger seat, content to watch the world go by. Bad passengers are tense and complain about the distance between the car and other objects and the speed of the car, etc, etc. I am a bad passenger. Kate is an excellent passenger, which I really appreciate.

Kate can whip up a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich from the passenger seat, even when the car is in motion. Although we usually stop and eat, I like knowing that if we’re really pressed for time that Kate can feed us in only a few minutes without losing any time.

Excellent driver. Kate is great behind the wheel and I do not hesitate to let her take over when I need a break or she asks to drive.

There are certainly other items that I’m forgetting, but I’ve made my point. Kate is my Co-Pilot and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s great to know that she is a great passenger, I am not! But, maybe it has to do with whom you are riding with??? LOL

  3. I suppose you have me to thank for Kate’s awesomeness. All those years of being the sign route passenger have paid off. I must say that when Kate is with me these days- she prefers to drive. I think that means that her level of great passengering is determined by who is in the driver’s seat. Thankfully she has you to travel with- you make a great pair!
