Friday, July 3rd – Day 80
Brett and I were lucky enough to get to stop by Camp Canonicus while we were in Rhode Island. The camp holds special memories for both of us. Brett grew up as a camper here and then joined staff as soon as he was old enough. He was working the summer of 2002 when I made my first Rhode Island summer camp appearance. We had both just finished our freshman year of college and were excited to be on summer break. It was that summer working on staff at Canonicus that I made some of the best friends of my life – a bunch of wacky Rhode Islanders to boot!
Brett and I try and go back to Canonicus whenever we can to revisit the site where we first met.
During this visit we were lucky enough to see several former co-workers including our dear friend Kailyn who is still on staff even after 20 years at camp. After spending part of the afternoon walking around camp, we headed over to Julie and Dave’s house for a cookout. Several of us from the Summer of ’02 are still very close and we get together whenever possible. We had a very fun evening catching up and enjoying delicious food. I tried to replicate the wonderful ice cream sundae that Brett and I had in Ithaca, NY for everyone to enjoy. It wasn’t quite as good but it was still tasty. I wish these ladies lived closer because as far as friends go – they don’t get any better than this!
I wish we all lived closer too!!!!
