Day 60 - 6/13 - Leaving the National Forest this morning we were able to snap some photos of these unknown antelope-like animals. One very small baby animal was laying in the middle of the dirt road that we were driving out on. Brett thought it was a piece of wood, but as we drove beside it, it lifted its small little head. I don’t know if it was just sleeping there or if it had been abandoned.
We made our way from Ennis, Montana to West Yellowstone and from there into the Park. We drove around to the various attractions. It was a Saturday at a National Park and I had to keep reminding Brett that there were going to be crowds and that he had to be patient. Traveling before the height of tourist season and usually during the week has kept us from having to deal with crowds for the most part - and it has been very nice and is usually taken for granted. Not today though, there were crowds today.
We made it to the numerous geysers, walked the wooden footpaths with the other tourists and drove the roads surrounded by out of state plates. We had lunch away from the foul-smelling geysers and parked alongside a stream and watched fly fishermen at work while we ate pb&j from the car.
Then came the rain. It rained up until moments before Old Faithful was set to spew. We tried to avoid as much of the rain as possible. Then, as soon as it stopped, we made our way down the boardwalk to see the massive spray of the timely eruption.
We made it into Grand Tetons before the day was through and just in time for a hail storm. Brett cooked dinner in the rain, we ate dinner sitting under a tree, and we opted due to the saturation of the ground and the amount of rain still falling that we would sleep in the car - something that we hadn’t done in almost a month.
Overall though it was not a bad day. We saw two marmot, 5 buffalo, numerous elk and tons of pronghorn - the until now unidentified animal. Pronghorn are a type of antelope…

When we went to Yellowstone many years ago, it is still one of my favorite vacations! The Tetons are awesome. Glad you got to see them.
