I knew that we would be remiss if during our travels in California we did not do some wine tasting. There are entirely too many quality vineyards and wineries to not enjoy the local wine. While visiting in San Francisco our host, Mitch, took us to three different tastings. The first tasting was at Rosenblum Cellars in Alameda. It’s inside of an old airplane hangar and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Mitch is a member and the hostess had us taste about ten different wines. Rosenblum makes great Zinfandel, we tried three different varieties. All very good.
I was absolutely loving the wine tasting experience - lots of great wines, good company, learning about the different grapes and which parts of California they are grown in, etc, etc. Kate, on the other hand, is not a wine person. Her idea of a glass of wine is when it’s in sangria and she can’t taste the wine. But she was a trooper and tasted all of the wines. It wasn’t until the end that our hostess found a wine that Kate actually enjoyed - a late harvest Viognier dessert wine. A very sweet white wine. Very sweet. The hostess deserves a medal for finding a wine that Kate liked so much she bought a bottle.
And then we went to a different location in Oakland where there were two different wineries represented - JC Cellars and Dashe. Much smaller crowd here and smaller wine selections, but still very good. It was a quality wine tasting experience and I greatly appreciate Mitch taking the time to show us a few of his favorite local spots. I will definitely be drinking more California wine from now on.
Is it wise for you to be drinking more wine…? I have seen first hand the dangers of Brett and too much wine. Remember Christmas, the XM radio and the fateful trip to the ER? Just be careful and don’t try to open any plastic after a wine tasting! Love you!!!
Nealey is a member of Rosenblum as well. I’m a Zin fan myself, so we try to stop by there every now and then.
@Sarah - No, no operating of heavy machinery or sharp objects has been mixed with wine. No worries.
@Blake - Yeah, Rosenblum makes a good Zinfandel. Interesting setup in the old hangar, but they do very good tastings.
