Day 57 - June 10th - We traveled North into British Columbia today. Brett wanted to prepare the car for the vigorous border search as some things were out of place - but I reassured him that it wouldn’t be a problem going into Canada. We arrived at the border crossing, handed the gentleman our passports and waited a moment. He asked us the standard questions - Q: How long will you be in Canada? A: A week. Q: Why are you traveling to Canada? A: Vacation. Q: Do you have firearms? A: No! Q: Have you been to Canada before? A: Yes. Q: When and where? A: Montreal. Last July. Then he asked Brett what he did for a profession, which kind’ve surprised us. Both because we weren’t expecting it and because it doesn’t have a job - he answered I.T. and the man handed back our passports and told us to have a nice stay. Successful border crossing!
We navigated our way to the metropolis of Vancouver. It was massive and very pretty. There were many skyscrapers, at least half appeared to be high-rise condos. Everywhere we drove it seemed a new luxury hotel was being built and set to open in January 2010, prime time for Vancouver’s Feb 2010 Winter Olympics. We made our way around town, managed to do some shopping and then started the sightseeing. We saw the Canada Center with a cruise ship on each side and were amazed at how big it was. From there we headed to Gastown and saw the steam clock which whistles and steams every 15 minutes. Then we were off to the very large city park on the western edge of town, Stanley Park. In Stanley Park we saw totem poles and a lighthouse, had spectacular views of the city and went to the aquarium. It was a day with wonderful weather and we were delighted to spend it in such a great park. By early evening we headed out of town very satisfied with our day in Vancouver.
