Rural Montana and a Milestone

Rural Montana and a Milestone

Day 59 of our road trip was an especially scenic one. Ok, so that could be said about many of the days that we’re driving around exploring this great nation of ours. But Kate and I both have a deep appreciation for Montana’s Big Sky Country. We took our time and got off the interstate and drove on some back roads to get from Dillon to the National Forest close to Yellowstone National Park.

On our way through the small town of Ennis we had to stop because there were too many fun shops and old west store fronts to pass up. They even had a tiny movie theater! The local grocery store had a copy of Western Horseman on display in the checkout line. Lots of cowboy hats and big pickup trucks out here. While driving along we had a chance to see a decent number of cattle as well as pronghorn (a sort of antelope) grazing in the vast fields.

Toward the end of our day we reached a milestone - 9,000 miles driven. When we look at the map and count the days (tomorrow is day 60!) its hard to believe that it’s only 9,000  miles. Sofi is doing great, she’s been taking the mountain passes in the Rockies like a champ. We keep telling her that it flattens out in the middle of the country, and she’s not going to miss the mountains of the west, but she’s still doing well. We’re very happy to have made it this far. Tomorrow we go to Yellowstone!
