Oh Canada

Oh Canada

Day 58 - 6/11 - Our night in Canada went quite well. We slept not far from a very rapidly moving mountain river which babbled and rushed all night long. It was excellent white noise and I slept wonderfully. After packing up, we headed out for another day of driving through the Canadian Rocky Mountains! The mountain passes were done masterfully and Sofi handled them very well.

We drove through Princeton and other cute towns, including Greenwood the smallest incorporated city in Canada. We drove over bridges, up mountain sides and past small towns. We stopped at a lookout and learned that it was a good place to watch mountain goats; however, we saw none. We ended up on a Wine Route and drove among miles and miles of vineyards. In an orchard we found old tractors and cars nestled between the trees. We drove and drove - enjoying the scenery and the cool mountain air.

There was a road sign that I wish we had photographed. It was a sign warning of sheep in the roadway and asking that you drive with caution. However the picture on it was of a large sheep wedged under a crashed a car. The grey sheep had eyes that were bugged out and appeared to be lying in a pool of blood. It was a rather goory but unique road sign.

Before the day was over, we found ourselves back in the US. The border crossing was quite a bit longer than the one the day before, as the US official not only asked numerous questions but also ran our passports, license plate and drivers licenses. After 15+ minutes, we were allowed to re-enter the US. We drove east through the few remaining miles of Washington state before venturing into Idaho and finding a campground for the night outside of Coeur d’Alene in the panhandle.
