Exploring New Mexico involved another detour, and so when we returned from our journey to Taos and Santa Fe I was more than ready for some more Route 66 fun. We drove through Albuquerque on the Mother Road and decided it was the right time of day for a chocolate milk shake. We pulled into the parking lot to an un-assuming looking building with a small sign that said ‘Route 66 Diner’. But after walking in the door I was blown away by all of the fun and interesting Route 66 paraphenalia adorning the walls - including the map in the photograph above.

There was an entire room separate from the rest of the dining area that was set up like an old filling station - garage doors for windows, a gas pump, license plates, the whole nine yards.

We walked in and I heard an old Elvis Presley tune playing on the juke box, and almost ordered a slice of pie before remembering that the Route 66 Diner is famous for their milk shakes. I’m glad that I didn’t order the pie, I was full after splitting a chocolate milk shake with Kate, it was very tasty.

In the back of the main dining area there is this large neon sign, one of the best ones Route 66 neon signs I’ve seen thus far on our trip. I highly recommend the Route 66 Diner in Albuquerque, New Mexico - whether for a shake or a meal. This place is a real treat, especially if you’re in the mood for some old time Route 66 fun.
I am in the mood for more from the Mother Road. You crack me up! Have a great day!!!
It looks like you are finding a lot of interesting spots.
