S’more: noun (food), tasty snack enjoyed by many, usually made over a campfire. One begins by placing a marshmallow on a stick and placing over a fire, then when sufficiently warm (according to the end-user’s liking) the marshmallow is then placed on a graham cracker with a piece of chocolate and another graham cracker is placed on top creating a small sandwich-type food item. Enjoy.

Kate and I are both huge s’more fans. We’re in the third week of our trip and having a camp fire just has not been in the cards for us. Either we’re too tired, or the fire pit at our camp site isn’t in good condition or there is a fire ban - but it just  hasn’t happened. The last time we went to the grocery store we decided to buy s’more fixings so that we would be ready when we could finally have a fire. We waited a few days… waited another day… and then just gave in. After dinner one night we left the JetBoil (our trusty and amazing camping stove pictured above) out and decided to roast our marshmallows using the stove, instead of a fire (because at this campsite there was a fire ban in effect).

The results? Not too shabby. Patience is definitely required, a little more so than usual, as the JetBoil isn’t as large a heat source as a camp fire is. But it worked just fine for us. Next time we make s’mores I’m hoping that there will be a camp fire, but if there isn’t I’ll just pull out the JetBoil.

  3. [...] S’mores over the Jetboil, cooked on our portable camping stove in New Mexico. Not the most efficient way to make s’mores, but it’s certainly better than not having any s’mores at all. [...]
