Day 33 - 5/17 - We awoke in Gaviota State Beach, ate breakfast, packed up, and headed north towards Lompoc. Brett was able to chat with his parents before we arrived in San Luis Obispo. They are both doing well.

Upon arriving in San Luis Obispo, we found a much sought after camping store and purchased fuel for our camping stove - we ran out several days ago. With that done, we explored SLO on foot. There is a cute downtown area with shopping and great eateries. There is an old Mission and two colleges. The feel in the town is young and active.
We were too early to watch the 2nd annual Duck Derby hosted by one of the local fraternities where lots of rubber duckies are released down a very slow moving stream. The winner receives a large flat screen television and proceeds benefit cancer research.
We headed from there to Montana de Oro State Park for the evening’s camping. It was a really cool place and we enjoyed it quite a bit; however, it was really chilly. Brett and I took a rim walk and enjoyed seeing the various wildlife.

I was able to get ahold of my cousin Joel during his birthday party and wish him a happy bday and also chat with several members of my family before losing the cell phone signal. Turned out to be a pretty fun day.

I really like that coastline drive. We covered most of 1 & 101 breath taking. Love Grandpapa
