Day 38 - 5/22 - We had a slow morning in San Jose packing up Sofi and preparing to get back on the road; however, we weren’t going very far - just up the Eastern side of San Francisco Bay - to Berkeley, CA. We arrived in the early afternoon and took a walking tour of UC-Berkeley as well as downtown Berkeley before heading to Albany Bulb, an old landfill with sculptures and other public art.
Our tour guide for the day was Blake, a camp friend of Brett and mine from back in Rhode Island. He lives in Oakland but works in Berkeley and we were very lucky to be given the tour. The walking tour was just over 7 miles but the weather was fantastic so we were not going to complain about being outside and getting to enjoy it. We then headed to the island of Alameda for dinner. Blake’s fiancée, Nealy, joined us for dinner at La Piñata which served rather tasty burritos. This was our first time meeting Nealy and she passed our inquisition with flying colors. Blake and Nealy make a cute couple and we wish them the best of luck with their wedding plans.
Brett was impressed as they make their own Tequila - it was not tasted by Brett or I at this meal, but he was impressed that they have a House Tequila none-the-less. After getting to see Nealy’s new beach cruiser bicycle, Brett, Blake and I headed back to Blake’s apartment where I headed to bed while the boys played Wii into the night.
Glad I could be such a helpful tour guide. I didn’t realize myself how long the walk was until dinner! Oh, and Brett, please send me the pictures of Nealey on her new bike.
