Soda and Grilled Cheese at POPS on Route 66

Soda and Grilled Cheese at POPS on Route 66

A recently introduced Route 66 roadside attraction, POPS draws visitors from all around. It’s a gas station, restaurant and souvenir shop all rolled into one. We found ourselves here in need of a hearty lunch meal after a morning of driving and taking in all that Oklahoma’s Route 66 has to offer.

We ordered two sandwiches, fries and two sodas - driving and walking around the sites of eastern Oklahoma had made us quite hungry. One grilled cheese with tomato and one grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Not a whole lot of veggie-friendly options, but the sandwiches we had were good. The fries were fantastic - a good amount of large grain salt on top, definitely the best part of the meal.

After ordering our meal we wandered around the restaurant/store and looked at the variety of soda that they had to drink. The walls all looked like the photo above - shelves of hundreds (if not thousands) of different types of soda. We decided we would try one root beer and one orange soda - but going to the refrigerator to choose was still a daunting task. There were sodas from all over the country - one root beer from Rhode Island - it was a bit overwhelming.

We visited POPS in the afternoon, but at night this 60 foot tall soda bottle is lit up with thousands of LED lights, making the outside of POPS an attraction in itself. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t on when we were visiting, but we needed to continue our journey westward and visit Oklahoma City.

If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Arcadia, Oklahoma in need of a decent, reasonably priced meal and a wide selection of soda, I recommend POPS. The servers are friendly and you can pick up a Route 66 souvenir or two to go with your meal.
