We love it! Sleeping in the car has been fantastic. Today is day #11 and we have spent $19 on campgrounds. We have stayed 4 nights in City/County/State Parks, 3 nights in National Lakeshore/Conservation/Wilderness Areas, and 3 nights with family/friends. We find public access sites, city parks without a posted closing time and signs forbidding overnight parking, and national public use areas. We rearrange the car, make the bed and crawl inside. We have awoken surrounded by forests, alongside rivers/lakes/waterfalls and the gently sound of Lake Michigan’s waves.
Our pillows lay on the folded down backseat with our heads up towards the backside of the front seats.
We face out the back window. When we opt to not put the curtains up, this allows for waking up to some amazing scenery.
It is hard to tell that we even have the curtains up from outside the car!
With the curtains up, the sleeping area is very dark. It has been really easy and comfortable to sleep in the car – to both, Brett’s and my surprise.
This is a close up of the curtains that mom and I made (thanks again mom). We used picture hanging hooks sewn onto the fabric with coax cable plastic securing pieces and viola!
When we are sleeping in the back – our stuff has to go somewhere. These two pictures show where it goes.
We leave the driver’s seat clear – just incase we need to move the car quickly.
