Exeter, Rhode Island holds a special place in my heart. It is the location where Brett and I first met during the summer of 2002. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived at camp on that rainy June night. But it turned out to be an amazing summer full of unforgettable memories and a group of fantastic friends. I went back the next summer, but many of the staff from the year before did not return and although it was a great second summer – it paled in comparison to the magic of 2002.
Our return to Exeter in January 2009 was to see Kailyn. Kailyn was one of those fantastic friends that I met in 2002 and she and Brett have been friends for even longer. Kailyn teaches outdoor education to elementary and middle school students at the field campus of URI. She appears to absolutely love working with the students and gets to live in an old farmhouse on campus in the middle of the woods. It is a very serene location.
Brett and I were able to spend a few days with Kailyn. We played games, watched movies, made a mess in the kitchen and had an overall very relaxing time. We left a few times and explored other parts of Rhode Island (the tiniest of all 50 states) but spent the majority of our visit inside the old farmhouse hanging out.
