As a child I always knew when summer was over. I ended up back behind a desk, reading books and doing homework. But after I graduated from college the lines between the seasons blurred. And they became more obscured when I moved to Indiana. Heck, they don’t recognize Columbus Day as a proper holiday here! Oh well. But here in Middle America, the land of corn and soy beans, there is an easy way to tell when summer is finally drawing to a close. The corn starts to yellow, then turn brown before finally withering. The soy bean fields turn a golden, almost copper color. The harvester tractors appear, leaving gigantic clouds of dust in their wake. Before we know it the leaves will be falling and the ground will be frozen from the first frost. Hopefully not too soon! I’m still enjoying the warm evening air. Complete album.
